If you’re gay and approaching 40, you’re going to have a past with the synthpop group Erasure. It’s the law.

That aside, the video for their their 1989 single “Drama!” matches cautionary tale about “one psychological drama after another” with the evident dangers of plastic waste. Enjoy the synth to the nth.

  1. I saw them live in 1987. The shiny black breastplate that Andy Bell was wearing is forever imprinted on my 17 year old mind. :)

You know, if someone came to me, and said, “Katharine, do you know anyone capable of working an Erasure reference into a post about reducing plastic use?” I’d have said, “Yes, I do. And if you happen to need anything on Grace Jones, he can help you with that, too.” :)

  2. I saw the guy from Erasure do a two-song set at a marriage rights fundraiser in LA a couple years ago. I may not be gay and approaching 40, but I loved them in high school and it brought me right back. He’s fantastic live!
