Irish Non-subscribers and peace

Phil O’Crites — Philo’s St. Patrick’s Day persona — asked

And did you know that there are still a few thousand Non-Subscribing Presbyterians in Northern Ireland? They’re part of General Assembly of Unitarian and Free Christian Churches in the UK.

Well, first, the Non-subscribers are not a part of the General Assembly of Unitarian and Free Christian Churches, and properly speaking aren’t Unitarians, even though they share a ministerial roster and are informally known in some circles as Unitarian.

I wrote about their new website last December. As for peace, I’ve heard they fill a mediating role with the Quakers and Methodists. Not sure if that’s the case now.

Oh, and their ministers wear bands.
