So, why Beacon Press?

For all the congregational polity agita over the last — what? —  million years, what rationale, other than inertia, is there for the continuing Unitarian Universalist Association ownership of the Beacon Press? Rank heresy, I know, but I’m amazed that this isn’t ever openly discussed.
