Speaking of Charleston, S.C. Universalists

I just found this biographical page of a leading lay Charleston, S.C. Universalist, Dr. John Linnaeus Edward Whitridge Shecut, from the Charleston County Public Library site.

I never knew he was a student of sometime-Universalist Benjamin Rush. Note the portrait, too.

  1. i mention the Charleston Universalists in my http://scuniversalist.blogspot.com/2005/07/charleston-universalists.html

    taken mostly from Miller –
i hear that Shecut’s novel “Ish-noo-ju-lut-sche or The Eagle of the Mohawks” contains universalist views – but the book is extremely rare – even the 1960s reprinting, so I havent been able to confirm it…

i have to admit, that the name “”Primitive Apostolic Church of Trinitarian Universalists in the City of Charleston” has a certain ring to it.

Somebody told me they had a picture of the building, but I havent been able to reconnect with them on that….
