Ubuntu on Dell

The BBC reports that Dell, the hardware manufacturer, has partnered with Canonical, the engine behind Ubuntu Linux to sell machines with the popular Linux distribution preinstalled. As someone who uses Ubuntu Linux at home and at Day Job (yes!) I think this is very good news.

Well, not exactly news for Ubuntumaniacs since Dell asked what its loyal customers wanted and a bunch most said preinstalled Linux, without favoring a distribution. What I didn’t know is Michael Dell uses Ubuntu (on a Dell) at home.

Quite a coup, as Ubuntu Linux only dates to 2004 and other distributions like Red Hat and SuSE have long shadows.
